3. Joe Tryon

The Chiefs desperately need to find more guys who can create pressure off the edge in 2021. Landing Tryon in Round 1 would help Kansas City’s defense do that from the outside linebacker position.

The former Washington star has the right combination of speed and flexibility to blossom into a quality pass rusher with the proper coaching. His lack of weight means he needs to start his pro career at outside linebacker, but getting big enough to put his hand in the dirt should be a long-term goal for Tryon.

The fact that he already has the size and strength required to set the edge against the run only adds to his value as a prospect. He’s not a one-trick pony for a Chiefs defense that needs help in a lot of different areas. He comfortably projects as a three-down linebacker early in his career.

Tryon isn’t the flashiest edge rushing prospect in this class, but Kansas City would do well to draft substance over style here. He may never notch double-digit sacks, but he’s a good bet to become a quality starter for a defense that needs to add cheap talent.
