The Drew Brees era is over with the New Orleans Saints. Here are three options to replace him.

Take a bow, Drew Brees. You’ve earned it.

Fifteen years after signing with the New Orleans Saints, Brees announced his retirement from the NFL. In 20 years, few have left a greater legacy on the field than No. 9 did in the Bayou. Coming to a city that needed him most, Brees represented the hope and passion found on the streets of New Orleans every given Sunday.

He also brought the team its first title while resetting nearly every NFL passing record. His kiss goodbye to the Superdome might not have been the storybook ending he wanted, but at least he went out on his own terms.

Now, a new era must begin.

Sean Payton will have options this offseason when addressing the quarterback position. Ultimately, there are options both in free agency and the draft that could be upgrades to what’s on the roster. The Saints still have standouts on both sides, meaning that their Super Bowl window isn’t over just yet.

There’s are the most likely options for Brees’ replacement in 2021.

Three options to replace Drew Brees with the Saints

This move is going to cost New Orleans. How much? Whatever John Schneider wants and then some.

The Russell Wilson situation has gained traction over the past month. While the Chicago Bears seem to be the front-runners if Wilson is made available, New Orleans has the roster that could be better equipped to make a run deep into the postseason.

Brees was the reason the Saints were held back in 2020. Wilson would be the reason they’d excel in 2021. The question, then, is what would be the asking price?

Three or four future first-round picks would need to be heading to Seattle. The Saints would also need to throw in at least two proven players to fix the offensive line and secondary. Would Ryan Ramczyk or Marshon Lattimore fit the bill in a sign and trade?

Wilson is coming off a career year in which he threw for 40 touchdowns and 4,212 passing yards. If Mickey Loomis is 100 percent sold that Wilson can win in New Orleans, he should send a King’s Cake offer to the 12th Man for their quarterback.
