Dolphins reportedly interested in signing Kenny Golladay
Kenny Golladay might be the top name on the free-agent market in the Miami Dolphins are interested.
With the Chicago Bears franchise tagging Allen Robinson and Tampa Bay Buccaneers doing the same for Chris Godwin, former Detroit Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay is expected to be the top pass-catcher on the market.
The question isn’t where he would best fit, but rather which team is willing to make the biggest push. That could be answered in the coming hours should a deal be finalized.
According to reports from ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe, the Miami Dolphins are interested in adding Golladay to their roster. Since the team finished 10-6 and missed out on the AFC playoffs, many have believed that Miami would be in the market to add a true No. 1 target for now second-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Miami currently holds the No. 3 and No. 18 selections in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft on April 29.
Should the Dolphins be in on Golladay’s skills?
Golladay’s evaluation is hard to put a finger on entering 2021. Since being drafted out of Northern Illinois in 2017, he’s emerged as the No. 1 target for Matthew Stafford in the Motor City. The 2018 and 2019 campaigns proved to be his best as Golladay tallied back-to-back 1,000-plus yard seasons with 16 total touchdowns in that span.
In four years with the Lions, Golladay has tallied 183 total catches for 3,068 yards and 21 touchdowns, averaging 16.8 yards per catch. The 27-year-old only played in five games last season due to a hip injury.
With the signing of Corey Davis to the New York Jets, the Dolphins must address the need for a wide receiver. The attention now turns to price as Golladay will command a hefty salary after the Lions elected not to use the franchise tag. Davis is set to earn $37.5 million over the next three seasons, averaging out to be $12.5 million per year.
Will Golladay ask for $15 million? Is $17.5 million more the range?
With Nelson Agholor and Davis now off the market, the Dolphins will have to decide what they should do at pass-catcher. Although the draft does have value, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Golladay are quality options to pair with DeVante Parker.
For the right price, Golladay in South Beach could be done sooner rather than later.
