2. Mac Jones

If the consensus top-4 quarterback prospects are off the board at No. 9, the Broncos could face a really tough choice to make on Jones. He doesn’t have elite athletic traits, but it’s hard to argue with his accuracy and collegiate productivity.

At the very least, he projects as a guy who can help Denver’s offense improve immediately. He should be relatively ready to play immediately. Jones may never push the ball down the field with elite arm strength, but he should help the Broncos’ wide receivers with above-average ball placement on short and intermediate routes.

The lack of long-term projection in Jones’ game should give Denver’s decision-makers serious pause. Those concerns will likely be overcome by the former Alabama star’s high-floor if he is available at No. 9.

Jones continues to rocket up mock drafts in the media at this point in the pre-draft process, but don’t be surprised if some teams shy away from him based on his mediocre athletic profile. The Broncos’ desperation for an upgrade at quarterback makes them a prime candidate to select him in Round 1.
