3. Andy Dalton, Chicago Bears

Dalton may give the Bears an upgrade at quarterback, but that’s really just an indictment on their lack of quality at the game’s most important position. $10 million isn’t an overpay for a starting signal-caller, but this screams mediocre move for a franchise that desperately needs to acquire difference makers.

Admittedly, the Bears seem to have settled on Dalton after failing to acquire more ambitious options. Trades for Russell Wilson or Deshaun Watson never seemed to gather much steam. Gambling on a rookie quarterback doesn’t make a ton of sense for a coaching staff/front office combination that’s under intense pressure to win now.

Still, signing Dalton is the sort of underwhelming move that could become the final nail in the coffin for Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace. If the Bears get off to a slow start then Dalton is going to become an unfortunate punch line in the Windy City.

It may seem unfair to put Dalton on this list since he didn’t contribute to Chicago’s previous failings at quarterback, but that’s the hand he’s chosen in free agency. This marriage is going to end poorly for everyone involved.
