2) Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers just lost Hunter Henry via free agency to the New England Patriots, and obviously would prefer not to substantially weaken quarterback Justin Herbert’s supporting cast as he enters his second season.

Henry was a model of consistency for the Chargers, and a favorite target of Herberts, who hauled in 60 receptions for 613 yards and four touchdowns, while averaging 10.2 yards per reception in 2020.

It is no question that young quarterbacks typically rely on their tight ends, particularly on high-percentage passes. In Carson Wentz’s second season in Philadelphia, Ertz caught 74 passes for 824 yards and eight touchdowns. Given Herbert’s arm-strength, accuracy, and playmaking ability, Ertz could see a similar renaissance if he lands with the Chargers.

As vital as Ertz was to Wentz’s development, he would have the opportunity to have the same impact on Herbert, who many scouts and executives across the NFL believe to have an immense ceiling.

Ertz forming a trio of receivers alongside Mike Williams and Keenan Allen has the chance to be incredibly productive for the Charters.
