Seahawks finally give Russell Wilson some protection in trade with Raiders

Russell Wilson will surely be happy, with the Seattle Seahawks trading with the Las Vegas Raiders for offensive lineman Gabe Jackson. 

After taking things slow to start the week, Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider has been busy improving his team’s offense. First, Seattle agreed to a one-year deal with former LA Rams tight end Gerald Everett on Wednesday. Now, the team has made a move that will have Russell Wilson smiling.

According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Seahawks have agreed to a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders that will send offensive guard Gabe Jackson to the Northwest in exchange for a fifth-round pick. What’s that, some offensive line help to protect Wilson?

As you might imagine, this move was most definitely designed to make Wilson happy. Earlier this offseason, as has been well documented, the superstar signal-caller made it more than clear that the team’s inability to protect him in recent years has frustrated him. After Wilson said this, it has created quite the drama between him and the team.

Trade rumors swirled, but Seattle remained adamant that Wilson would not be sent anywhere. The Chicago Bears even came in with a deal that included three first-round picks, but Schneider and Co. still said no. Since then, Seattle has added Everett at tight end and Jackson for the offensive line.

Jackson has spent the past seven seasons with the Raiders, appearing in 100 games and starting 99 of them. He has experience at both left guard and right guard.

Once camp rolls around, he figures to get his shot at right guard, but there’s also flexibility there to move him to the other side. Regardless of where he does line up, Jackson will be ready to make an impact for Seattle and there’s no doubt Wilson will be fired up to see the big man going to war for him in the trenches.
