3 wide receivers the Chiefs should sign after missing on JuJu Smith-Schuster
1. T.Y. Hilton
T.Y. Hilton is the best available option. The question now is if he would be willing to take a pay cut to chase a Super Bowl in 2021.
Hilton just wrapped up a five-year, $65 million deal with the Indianapolis Colts. The 31-year-old has spent his entire career with the franchise and would be an elite option for Carson Wentz.
But the fact he is on the open market shows the Colts may want to see what his market looks like. That allows a team like the Chiefs to swoop in and get a deal done.
Spotrac lists Hilton’s market value around $10 million annually over a three-year span. The Chiefs would have to convince him to either take a one-year deal or a backloaded two-year deal to make this match work. The main pitch would revolve around Hilton getting his best shot to win a Super Bowl as he gets up there in age.
Veteran players may be more willing to take smaller one-year deals in 2021 because of the lowered cap numbers. Teams all around the NFL are letting talented players go strictly for financial reasons this offseason. Someone like Hilton could join the trend of taking the one-year deal and focusing on winning over money for one season.
He has not been a 1,000-yard receiver since 2018 and has a chance to boost his numbers with Patrick Mahomes throwing him the ball.
