Second Round

54. 46. Pick Analysis. DE. Oklahoma. Ronnie Perkins. Scouting Report. player

In six games for the Sooners last season, Perkins had 5.5 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss. In 2019, he had 13.5 tackles for loss and six sacks. Over three seasons, he had 16.5 sacks and 32 tackles for loss.

At Oklahoma’s Pro Day, per Bleacher Report, Perkins posted a 4.74 40-yard dash time with a 32-inch vertical, a 4.78 40-yard shuttle and 25 bench press reps. That 40 time would have been the fifth-fastest among defensive lineman at the 2020 NFL Combine.

At 253 pounds (Pro Day weigh-in), Perkins is a little light for a 4-3 defensive end. But that did not stop him from being a force against the run to go with what he does as a pass rusher. NFL Network’s Bucky Brooks has compared him to Haason Redick.

"There is a lot to like about him as he plays with a non-stop relentless motor,” Brooks said on Friday’s NFL Now. “You see him get to the quarterback with 9.5 sacks last year. The question for him is size-wise. Can you put him with his hand in the dirt each and every down? When I look at him, he reminds me a little bit of Haason Reddick. Not in first-round talent but in terms of being an undersized pass rusher who it took a little while to find his way in the league.”"

With the premium placed on edge defenders, Perkins could be a first-round pick. But he’s more likely to fall to the second, and the Colts gladly grab him here.
