Rounds 5-7

Round 5

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Camryn Bynum. player. 46. CB. Cal. 165

A four-year starter at Cal, Bynum posted a blazing 4.49 40 at his Pro Day along other good testing numbers. Teams apparently asked him about playing somewhere other than corner, and Bynum pointed to his versatility.

"We’ve played everything (defensive schemes) at Cal. I don’t have any preferences because at the end of the day I’m just an X on the whiteboard. Put me in Cover 3, I’ll play Cover 3 – Cover 4, whatever.” One glaring thing that I saw every single team asked if I was willing to play other positions other than corner … Something they see in my game is that I can be versatile to be able to play inside at nickel, back to safety. I told them wherever you need me at or slot me at, I play football and I’m a defensive back, not just a cornerback. I think I’ll be elite wherever I go to.”"

Bynum still has some concerns about being able to match up against higher end NFL wide receivers. But his combination of size (6-foot, close to 200 pounds), versatility and ball skills assures he can fit somewhere, and the Colts will find room for him in their secondary.

Round 6

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Colorado State. player. 46. WR. Warren Jackson. 206

Jackson opted out of the 2020 season, but he earned first-team All-Mountain West honors in 2019 (77 receptions for 1,119 yards, eight touchdowns) as he ranked fourth in FBS in yards per game (111.9). To call him a big receiver, at 6-foot-6 and 219 pounds, is an understatement. He’s got some things to get better at, but Jackson’s a worthy sixth-round flier for the Colts.

Round 7

CB. San Diego State. 248. 46. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Darren Hall. player

Hall had a breakout season for the Aztecs in 2019, tying for the the FBS lead with 16 pass breakups while adding 49 total tackles and 1.5 sacks. He followed that with All-Mountain West First Team selection last year (three interceptions, 37 total tackles, six pass breakups in eight games). But broader refinement of his technique will be necessary to really succeed at the next level, as NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein cited in his evaluation.

But as seventh-round picks go Hall has a chance to stick around, and the Colts add another young piece to their secondary to round out their 2021 draft.
