2. Ja’Marr Chase

With all due respect to Waddle and Smith, they aren’t even the top wide receiver prospect in their own collegiate division. Chase deserves that moniker and is also the No. 1 wideout in this year’s draft class.

He might lack the elite speed that Waddle possesses, but he runs well enough to comfortably generate separation down the field. That helps Chase’s length and exceptional hands really work to his advantage.

Add in his exceptional route-running ability and it’s easy to understand his appeal as a prospect. He opted out of the 2020 season at LSU, but he was exceptionally productive working alongside Joe Burrow during his team’s undefeated 2019 campaign. He’s a classic No. 1 wide receiver who can help the Lions fill Golladay’s role on the outside in 2021 and beyond.

The question Detroit needs to answer is whether or not he’ll still be on the board when they go on the clock at No. 7. The Eagles have strong interest in him with the No. 6 pick. The Lions might need to trade up for Chase if they really believe he’s a potential superstar.
