3. St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals may have been in on Francisco Lindor before the Mets got him, and before they traded for Nolan Arenado. So their big move might already be done for anytime in the near future, but they came out nicely financially in the Arenado deal with the Rockies covering a lot of money.

As the Chicago Cubs effort to reduce payroll, the Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers try to figure out what they are and the Pittsburgh Pirates back in rebuild mode, the NL Central is there for the taking and the Cardinals seem to be only ones trying to take it.

The Cardinals don’t have a highly-regarded farm system as a whole right now (No.17-ranked by MLB.com). But they do have some promising prospects in the pipeline, further away from being big league ready than their top guys (and top-40 overall prospects) Dylan Carlson, Matthew Liberatore and Nolan Gorman.

Visions of a Arenado-Correa left side of the infield for years to come may already be dancing in Cardinals’ fans heads. Here’s how they could get it done.
