2. Mike Gesicki will lead the Dolphins in catches

Most NFL mock drafts believe the Dolphins will use their first round pick on a new wide receiver. That’s going to help the team be more multiple on offense, but it’s going to cut into DeVante Parker’s catch total.

That opens the door for Gesicki to emerge as Tagovailoa’s most frequent target. He caught 53 passes last season but should be in line for a bigger workload in 2021. If he can push his catch total to somewhere between 70 and 80 catches he stands a good chance to lead the Dolphins in that category.

Gesicki isn’t going to suddenly emerge as a dominant in-line option for Miami, so it’s imperative that the coaching staff accept the fact that he can only help them as a flex tight end. That’s where his impressive combination of size and athleticism really becomes a problem for opposing defenses.

The Dolphins’ desire to make life easier on Tua will also lend itself towards more work for their talented tight end. He may not lead Miami in receiving yards, but he stands a great chance to soak up a ton of targets and catches in 2021.
