NFL Mock Draft: How the first-round shakes out after Sam Darnold trade
By Brad Weiss
The Tennessee Titans let Adoree Jackson walk this offseason, and he certainly secured the bag, landing a huge deal with the New York Giants. To replace him, the Titans go with Greg Newsome II with the No. 22 overall pick, a kid who has begun to rocket up draft boards in recent weeks.
Newsome is regarded as one of the better cover cornerbacks in this draft class, and he would fill a big need on this defense. Remember, Tennessee has done a nice job building up what was a porous defense this past season, and Newsome could be one of the final pieces of the puzzle.
The New York Jets hold two first-round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, this after trading away Jamal Adams to the Seattle Seahawks. With this second pick, they turn their attention to another hole on their offense, bringing in a quality running back to pair with their rookie quarterback in Najee Harris.
The best part about Harris is that he does so much more than just run with the ball, as he is an excellent pass-catcher out of the backfield. If Wilson gets the start as a rookie, they have to improve at running back, and in Harris, he gets an outstanding security blanket.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will have to navigate a very tough NFC North this upcoming season, a division that sent three teams to the playoffs in 2020. Big Ben will return under center, but for him to be effective, the Steelers have to bolster the offensive line, especially at offensive tackle.
Enter Jalen Mayfield, a versatile offensive lineman from the University of Michigan who could be just what the Steelers need. Big Ben does not move like he used to, and the window to win with him is closing, so using this No. 24 overall pick on the offensive line makes a ton of sense this late in round one.
