Seahawks: 1 free agent signing John Schneider regrets the most

Back in 2012, the Seattle Seahawks ended up signing quarterback Matt Flynn to a three-year deal worth $26 million and fans are still haunted by it. 

Ever since being named general manager of the Seattle Seahawks back in January of 2010, John Schneider has been a magician for the NFC West organization. Matter of fact, he’s made some brilliant moves, which of course led to the team winning the Super Bowl in 2013.

With all of that said, he is human after all and some decisions sure have haunted him. None more than his call back in 2012 to sign former Green Bay Packers quarterback Matt Flynn to a three-year deal. Just how bad was that move?

In March of 2012, the Seahawks stole countless headlines when they inked Flynn to a three-year deal worth $26 million. As part of that new deal, Flynn received $10 million in guaranteed money. The expectation was that the signal-caller would arrive to town and win the starting job.

Instead, Seattle ended up using a third-round pick that spring on a guy by the name of Russell Wilson. Ever heard of him? Wilson went on to win the starting job for the Seahawks and he hasn’t looked back ever since. Wilson has become one of the most electric quarterbacks in the game. The same sure can’t be said about Flynn, who has been out of the NFL since 2014.

Wilson had some off-field drama with the Seahawks this offseason, but he’ll be back at Lumen Field this campaign ready to try and power Seattle to another Super Bowl win. At the time, Schneider and Co. took a big gamble on Flynn and it didn’t pay off at all. Hey, we’ll forgive him, though.
