Round 2

Scouting Report. DE. 42. 31. Pick Analysis. Wake Forest. Carlos Basham Jr.. player

The Giants top defensive need is edge rusher. Leonard Williams led the ream with 11.5 sacks last year, but no one else had more than four (Dexter Lawrence and Kyler Fackrell). The positional value wasn’t there at No. 11, so they get a guy here in the second round.

Basham played six games in the shortened 2020 season, due to a bought with COVID-19 and opting out of Wake Forest’s bowl game, with five sacks, 28 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and four forced fumbles. In 2019, he had 10 sacks, 18 tackles for loss, 57 total tackles and three forced fumbles. Stepping into a starting role as a sophomore in 2018, he had 4.5 sacks, 64 total tackles and 11 tackles for loss.

Basham is pretty big (281 pounds), and thus he’s regarded as more powerful than sudden or particularly quick off the edge. He’ll probably need to get leaner, and maybe then he gets a little more agile to go with his power, hand strength, etc. In any case, the Giants immediately upgrade their pass rush with Basham.
