3 perfect Kirk Cousins replacements Vikings need to target in NFL Draft
Mond improved as a passer during his last season at Texas A&M, as he completed over 63 percent of his passes with touchdown-to-interception ratio a shade over 6:1 (19 and 3). He is one of three players in SEC history to throw for more than 9,000 yards and run for more than 1,500 yards. The others? Tim Tebow and Dak Prescott.
Rather than have a quarterback coach present, Mond took the reigns of his own Pro Day workout. With the attention on other quarterbacks’ Pro Days that day, one throw in particular stood out. The showing was a nice way to keep building his draft stock coming off his MVP performance at the Senior Bowl.
"With all the NFL I’ve watched, I felt like I could come up with my own routes to run,” Mond said. “I didn’t need a quarterback guru to tell my receivers where to be when I feel like that’s my job, to be the leader and to be in command of the entire pro day.”"
Mond is now a possible second-round pick. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein has compared him to Colin Kaepernick, and Chris Simms of NBC Sports ranked him fourth in his prospect rankings for this year’s quarterback class.
The Vikings will probably have to acquire a second-round pick to get Mond. One of their two third-rounders this year and a second-rounder in 2023 would be a worthy price to pay.
