Pick Analysis. James Hudson . 74. OT. Cincinnati. player. 58. Scouting Report

No one is sure what Washington will do at the left tackle position going into draft night. The team found success with Cornelius Lucas last season, and drafted Geron Christian in 2018. Both however will enter a contract year.

Will either be retained? Could one regress too much during the regular season? If so, it’s never too late to add protection and depth for the future.

Hudson shined during his final season with the Bearcats, helping turn Desmond Ritter into an overnight sensation. There are overall good and bad traits in his games. Positives include good frame, great patience and the ability to pile drive defenders into out of running plays. The negatives are lack of experience and overall footwork.

Washington wouldn’t need Hudson until 2022. Working as a rotational player, the former Bearcat can slowly inch his way into becoming a full fledged starter. With the size, frame and overall upside, it’s a good pick for WFT.

Humphries provides stability in the slot, but he’s also in a prove-it year after fizzling in Tennessee. Samuel will be used in a multitude of roles as a gadget player, but might not be the perfect vertical option for Turner’s system constantly.

Washington needs a home run threat in the passing game. Despite having three players who ran under a 4.4 40-time, none one has show that they can be a vertical option consistently. Even though Samuel will be the fastest, how well will he play outside the slot.

Brown spent the last two seasons as Sam Howell’s safety net in Chapel Hill. Averaging 20 yards or more per catch with the Tar Heels, the 6-foot-1 target can play both inside and out. Although he needs to improve on his route-running tree, there’s more than meets the eye for this versatile receiver.

Brown can be the perfect long-term “Z” option downfield opposite Samuel and Terry McLaurin.
