Ben Simmons made it more than clear that he doesn’t think Rudy Gobert should be named the Defensive Player of the Year this season.

As things stand, Utah Jazz big man Rudy Gobert is considered the odds-on favorite to take home NBA Defensive Player of the Year honors this season. However, if you ask Philadelphia 76ers standout Ben Simmons, he doesn’t think that should be the case.

Simmons didn’t mince words when talking about the Utah standout’s game, even calling him out for a previous showing when the Jazz and 76ers danced.

Rudy Gobert is not going to like seeing what Ben Simmons had to say about his defense

Whoa, Simmons really didn’t hold back. The fact that he brought up a game between the two teams when he dropped 42 points is only going to anger Gobert. The Jazz standout is no stranger to taking home the honor, though, as he’s won it twice. There’s no denying he’s a beast in the paint and a true star on the defensive end of the floor.

With that said, Simmons isn’t going to boost his ego whatsoever and has no issues calling out some flaws in his game. In addition to Gobert, Simmons, Joel Embiid, Myles Turner and Giannis Antetokounmpo are also contenders for Defensive Player of the Year.

However, again, Gobert is considered the favorite to take home the hardware at the end of the year. The center is currently averaging 14.5 points and 13.4 rebounds per game. Around the glass, few people in the league are better than Gobert at making plays.

Still, for Simmons, the 42 he dropped on him should be more than enough to sway some people’s minds on who should win Defensive Player of the Year. Will Gobert respond to what Simmons had to say? If he does, you know he’ll have some interesting words to say.
