Dalvin Cook and Justin Jefferson may wear new jersey numbers on the 2021 Minnesota Vikings.

With the NFL allowing more flexibility when it comes to what position groups can wear what jersey numbers, do not be shocked if Minnesota Vikings stars like running back Dalvin Cook and wide receiver Justin Jefferson go back to the digits they wore in college.

Cook wore No. 4 when he was the star tailback for the Florida State Seminoles, while Jefferson rocked the No. 2 when he was winning championships with the LSU Tigers.

There is also a strong possibility that two other Vikings teammates of theirs in defensive backs Cameron Dantzler and Patrick Peterson could go back to what they wore at Mississippi State and LSU, respectively.

Minnesota Vikings: Dalvin Cook, Justin Jefferson expected to change numbers

While changing jersey numbers may seem a little excessive for professional athletes, let’s be real for just one second. When we grew up playing team sports, you always had a jersey number that got you fired up. For me, it was all about rocking either the No. 8 or the No. 11 when I was playing youth baseball. Playing in a number you like goes a long way towards you feeling comfortable.

As Deion Sanders once said, you gotta look good, feel good; feel good, play good; play good, pay good … you get the idea. Changing jersey numbers will result in NFL teams shipping more merchandise. Every Vikings fan will want the newest Cook or Jefferson jersey, right? Switching numbers also brings in a group of college football fans who loved them at Florida State and LSU.

If Cook and Jefferson want to wear No. 4 and No. 2 for the Vikings, by all means, let them do it!
