After a sensational college career with Texas in Austin, Charli Collier won’t have to move far to begin her pro days after the Dallas Wings picked her No. 1 in the WNBA Draft.

For a while now, it’s been expected that Texas Longhorns center/forward Charli Collier would end up being the No. 1 pick in the WNBA Draft. That was sure what everyone thought would happen as soon as she declared in February to leave school early. Well, things are now official.

On Thursday, the Dallas Wings have indeed pulled no surprises and used the first selection of the night on Collier. After her terrific time in Austin with Texas, Collier will now be ready to move to Dallas to try and make an early impact for the Wings.

She’s also become the first player from Texas to ever be taken No. 1 overall in the WNBA Draft.

Collier is coming off a superb campaign for Texas this past season. The 6-foot-5 standout averaged 20.9 points and 12.2 rebounds per contest. Her ability to score is one thing, but good luck trying to beat her around the glass in trying to come away with a rebound as well. She’s got unmatched passion for recording rebounds on any given play.

In her three years with Texas, the new Wings player averaged 13.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per showing. Her freshman campaign she posted 6.4 points per game but only saw her confidence and numbers grow the following two seasons.

Had she returned for her senior year, there’s no question she would have been among the top players in the country. However, Collier made the decision to head to the WNBA and that call led her to receiving the life-changing news on Thursday. Come next season, Dallas fans will be ready to see what she can do.
