5 breakout stars to watch for Dallas Cowboys in 2021
Alright, let’s relax, sit down, take a breath and unpack a few things here before we get into the meat of the slide.
Yes, CeeDee Lamb was good in his rookie year. He caught 74 passes for 935 yards and five scores on 111 targets. 46 catches were for first downs, and he had eight drops. He used his legs as a rusher and scrapped together 82 yards on 10 rushes with four first-down pickups and one touchdown.
Lamb was good, and he is good. So, prefacing those numbers was necessary for this article because Lamb can truly breakout and be substantially more effective in 2021. In fact, Lamb was underused last year.
With Prescott under center prior to injury (five games), Lamb had two 100+ receiving yards games (yes, one of those games came in the same contest as the injury). After that, he had no such games. His highest single-game yardage total post-Prescott was 85 yards.
Prescott returning changes the entire outlook for this team. He played the best football of his career and was chipping away at becoming one of the best quarterbacks in the league before he got hurt. By being so great, he helped Lamb become an impact player right away.
So, really, it is simple. Prescott is back. Lamb was great with him, and he still plays next to one of the best in the game with Amari Cooper and another solid receiver in Michael Gallup. Those two free up a lot of action underneath, which Lamb benefits from.
Lamb can breakout and become one of the best receivers in the NFL in 2021. Doesn’t it almost feel likely he does? Like anything other than a massive Pro Bowl year may be a letdown? With Prescott back, expect a huge campaign from the former Oklahoma Sooner.
