NFL Mock Draft: What the first-round looks like if 49ers pass on Mac Jones
By Brad Weiss
With the No. 4 overall pick, the Atlanta Falcons could certainly be in trade mode, as they could get a King’s ransom if someone falls in love with any of the quarterbacks remaining. However, if they do stay at the fourth pick, I like them to add Florida tight end Kyle Pitts, but has superstar written all over him.
While it may not be popular to draft a tight end in the top-5, Pitts is not your ordinary prospect and would be an absolute playmaker within this Falcons offense. Matt Ryan has good football left in him, so the play here is to either trade out of four or get him a playmaker like Pitts.
During his time at LSU, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow made a habit of throwing the ball to Ja’Marr Chase in big spots. Some feel that the Bengals could go with Chase here at No. 5, bringing the teammates back together, and giving Burrow a legitimate WR1 atop the depth chart.
However, we also saw Burrow’s knee get demolished as a rookie, so leaving a talent like Penei Sewell on the board makes no sense. Sewell would team with Jonah Williams to give the Bengals a young duo at offensive tackle, and the two would be tasked with protecting the franchise’s No. 1 asset.
With pick No. 6, the Miami Dolphins continue to put weapons around Tua Tagovailoa, this time adding his former Alabama teammate in Jaylen Waddle. While some feel Waddle could actually be the No. 3 wideout in this class, there is no denying his skill set, and if he was healthy last season, the conversation could be different right now.
Waddle is an outstanding prospect, one that would make him the top wide receiver in South Beach right away. Brian Flores is certainly building around Tua, and in Waddle, they get a player who could be a 1,000-yard guy as a rookie.
