2. Detroit Lions

When you give up the second-most points (519) in a single season in NFL annals, all suggestions are welcome. And new Detroit Lions’ head coach Dan Campbell inherits a team that also allowed the most total yards in the league in 2020, to go along with 65 offensive touchdowns – a league-high 27 via the ground. The team managed only 24 sacks and only a dozen takeaways in a miserable 5-11 season in which the club closed the season by giving up 30-plus points in each of their final six contests.

The team hired Aaron Glenn to be the new defensive coordinator and general manager Brad Holmes looked to bolster this side of the ball by trading for interior defender Michael Brockers via the Los Angeles Rams. Glenn was an assistant with the Saints and the Lions signed outside linebacker Alex Anzalone. In the secondary, the club turned to Seattle and added cornerback Quinton Dunbar.

There’s a lot of work to be done here. But the addition of Richardson means a player that is not that far removed from the NFC North considering he played with the Vikings in 2018. Paired with Brockers, that duo could also make life a lot easier for disappointing pass rusher Trey Flowers.
