1. Jared Goff will throw fewer than 15 touchdowns

The Lions are going to experience a clear downgrade at quarterback via the switch from Stafford to Goff. Their new signal-caller needs a very comfortable ecosystem to be productive. The ugly truth for Detroit is that they don’t possess the kind of talent or scheme that Goff needs to thrive.

The former No. 1 overall pick’s accuracy gives him a chance to do a nice job protecting the football in 2021, but the Lions’ offense is going to be starved for explosive plays. They just aren’t going to get the ball in the end zone enough.

Goff’s touchdown passing total will be sympotic of that issue. He hasn’t thrown less than 20 touchdowns since his rookie season, but that total will plummet after leaving Sean McCavy. Goff will struggle to hit 15 scores with his arm in 2021.

That means the Lions are going to head into next offseason looking for a new quarterback to lead their offense. Goff is a one-year rental for a Detroit team that is very much in transition. Detroit fans shouldn’t get too concerned with how he plays this season. He isn’t going to be a part of the team’s future.
