2. Call up Deivi Garcia

Garcia made a strong bid to make the big league club coming out of Spring Training but was ultimately sent to the Alternate Site in favor of Domingo German. It’s time for the Yankees to bring their prized prospect back to the Bronx.

The Yankees’ starting staff has struggled outside of Gerrit Cole’s typical brilliance. Garcia’s live arm can help inject some juice into Boone’s rotation. He may not give the organization the length they want to take pressure off the bullpen, but he can get the Yankees into the middle innings with a lead to work with.

Similar to the concept of moving LeMahieu to the No. 3 hole, this doesn’t need to be a permanent decision by Boone. Garcia has the right kind of swagger to pitch well despite the team’s current slump. Bringing up a potentially “slump proof” starter should be an appealing prospect to Boone and his coaching staff.

Leaving Garcia in the minors until midseason was the Yankees’ plan coming out of Spring Training, but it’s time to scrap that conservatism. He’s already good enough to help a rotation that’s in desperate need of confidence.
