Justin Verlander

In November of 2020, starting hurler Charlie Morton signed a one-year, $15 million deal with the Braves. It’s looking more and more likely that he won’t be making his way back to the club once the 2022 campaign rolls around. Who could end up replacing him in the rotation?

We’ve got quite the interesting option here to consider: Justin Verlander. While the 39-year-old starter is nearing the end of his career, how about heading to the Braves on a short-term deal? Verlander has proven that he’s still got plenty left in the thank.

He may still be pitching for the Astros, but like Rizzo, Verlander will be ready to enter free agency next offseason. Houston is already set to lose multiple players next year, with Carlos Correa making it pretty clear he’s not happy with the contract offer the Astros put on the table.

Houston really lowballed him, which has the star player looking to potentially continue his career elsewhere. For Verlander, he might want a fresh change as he gets closer and closer to retirement. Why not join a young, exciting team like the Braves?
