5 bold predictions for Green Bay Packers in 2021
2. Rashan Gary will break out with double-digit sacks
The Packers are still waiting for Gary to give them the sort of production they expected when they made him the No. 12 overall pick in the 2019 draft. He notched five sacks for Green Bay’s defense last season, but they want to see him double that production in 2021.
The good news is that Gary has the natural athletic ability required to do just that. He doesn’t have exceptional speed off the edge, but he possesses above-average quickness for a lineman with his size. The key for Gary is to improve his consistency next season if he wants to become a No. 1 pass rusher.
The continued presence of ZeDarius Smith on the outside will continue to give Gary plenty of opportunities to rush the passer against single-blocking schemes. He’s just too much for most opposing offensive tackles to handle via one-on-one battles.
Gary isn’t going to suddenly explode for 15+ sacks next season, but he is in line to double his sack production from a season ago. Getting to the quarterback 10 or more times in 2021 will do wonders to improve Green Bay’s defense.
