1. Draft Sammy Watkins’ replacement at wide receiver

As much as Chiefs Kingdom would have loved to have added legacy wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. out of LSU or even Elijah Moore out of Ole Miss, both SEC standouts are going to be off the board well before the Chiefs are picking at No. 58. Had they not traded for Brown, we could have totally seen either receiver fill the void of Sammy Watkins on the Chiefs’ 2021 roster.

With that in mind, this is a deep receiver class. Because Watkins was really only the third best receiver and fourth best receiving option on the team when you include all-world tight end Travis Kelce, the Chiefs should be able to get a player to replace Watkins at either No. 58 or No. 63. The two guys they should target are USC’s Amon-Ra St. Brown and Oklahoma State’s Tylan Wallace.

St. Brown’s older brother Equanimeous St. Brown plays for the Green Bay Packers after a strong college career at Notre Dame. The younger St. Brown brother has the higher NFL upside coming out of college. As for Wallace, he had been one of the best wide receivers in the Big 12 for years at Oklahoma State. He can be a very productive receiver right away in Andy Reid’s offensive system.

Overall, the Chiefs need to address receiver with one of these two second-round picks. Frankly, if they want to use both picks as trade pieces to climb further up the draft board or even back into the first round, it would not be that crazy. If the Chiefs need to address one roster issue in the first two days of the draft, one would think they would prioritize receiver over adding a defensive back.

Ultimately, the Chiefs maintain one of the four best rosters in the NFL. However, three of those rosters are in the AFC with the other two probably being the Buffalo Bills and the Cleveland Browns. While the Chiefs are the favorite to come out of the AFC again next year, every move they make this offseason must be done with pragmatism for them to win the Lamar Hunt Trophy again.

The Chiefs repositioning themselves to gain two second-round picks was smart in the Brown deal.
