Ryan Garcia withdraws from bout due to “health and wellbeing” concerns.

Rising Boxing star Ryan Garcia has announced he has withdrawn from his upcoming July 9 bout against Javier Fortuna due to undisclosed health and wellbeing concerns two months ahead of the scheduled fight.

Garcia posted on his Instagram early on Saturday that he is sorry to disappoint, but that he is unable to fight in his upcoming bout with Fortuna to get his health in order.

“I know this news may be disappointing to some of my fans, but I am announcing today that I am withdrawing from my July 9th fight,” Garcia wrote. “At this time it is important to manage my health and wellbeing, and focus on becoming a strong version of myself.”

In his last fight, Garcia knocked out Luke Campbell in defense of his minor WBC lightweight belt. Golden Boy Promotions announced his next fight against Fortuna just weeks ago and was scheduled to stream the fight on DAZN.

It is unclear whether or not Garcia has suffered a recent physical injury in preparing for Fortuna, but was brutally honest just last month about his struggles with mental health. In a March 2 Instagram post, Garcia went into greater detail about his ongoing fight with depression and anxiety.

“I still struggle every day with anxiety and depression. There are times where it calms down, but I still battle every day,” Garcia wrote. “There are ways to cope, I know I look like someone who is happy all the time but inside I hurt at times struggling just to function.”

The 26-year-old is one of the brightest stars working his way up the ranks in Boxing. Following his knockout over Campbell, a fight in which he suffered a brutal knockdown early on, Garcia called out fighters such as Gervonta Davis, Teofimo Lopez, and Vasiliy Lomachenko.

As for Fortuna, it is unclear whether or not he will remain on the card against a new opponent; but those details should be clarified soon.
