2. Bold trade deadline decisions

The 2020 MLB trade deadline could serve as a defining moment for the 2021 contending Boston Red Sox all thanks to Bloom.

The Sox traded away Mitch Moreland, Brandon Workman and Heath Hembree at the deadline. Moreland landed with San Diego, and in exchange the Red Sox restocked their farm system with two solid talents, one being former first-round pick Hudson Potts. The move with more immediate promise was the latter, which sent Workman and Hembree to a desperate Phillies team trying to upgrade their bullpen. In exchange, the Red Sox acquired Nick Pivetta and Connor Seabold. Pivetta out-dueled Jacob deGrom on Wednesday, and has been slotted in as a back of the rotation started ever since.
