Dak Prescott hints at what the Dallas Cowboys could be doing in the 2021 NFL Draft.

For the Dallas Cowboys to win big this season, starting quarterback Dak Prescott knows they have to get better on the defensive side of the ball.

Even though Dallas’ season hit the fan once Prescott suffered a season-ending ankle injury, a big reason the Cowboys could not recover with Andy Dalton under center was how awful the defense was. By hiring former Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn to be the team’s new defensive coordinator, Prescott anticipates that side of the ball will be a focus entering the 2021 NFL Draft.

“I think it’ll be a heavy defensive draft for us,” said Prescott on the Tiki and Tierney podcast. “You just look on the offensive side at the weapons we’ve got, and I think that’s why I say go defense.”

“We’ve got Amari Cooper, we’ve got Blake Jarwin coming back from an injury, we’ve got CeeDee (Lamb) coming into his second year, Michael Gallup, who I think is going to have the biggest year of his career yet, and obviously (Ezekiel Elliott) is in the backfield. I just think it’s obvious you go defense, and just make our team better over on that side.”

Dak Prescott expects the Dallas Cowboys to fix the defense in the NFL Draft

Dallas has the No. 10 overall pick in the Thursday night’s draft. The Cowboys are one of a few teams picking inside of the top 10 who absolutely will not be taking a quarterback. Though they could potentially trade back from their top-10 selection, Dallas is in a good spot to get a top-tier cornerback, the best linebacker in the entire draft or one of the many high-end pass rushers.

Players that Dallas could end up taking in round one include South Carolina cornerback Jaycee Horn, Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain II or Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons. If the Cowboys move back into the teens, there are plenty of great defensive players they can add, too. All we know is that Quinn will get a blue-chip defensive player or two by the end of the NFL Draft.

Prescott is spot-on in knowing what side of the ball the Cowboys need to address this weekend.
