Howie Roseman is nothing, if not aggressive when it comes to moving up and down the NFL Draft board.

NY Giants general manager Dave Gettleman revealed during a conference call with reporters that Roseman reached out earlier in the week, gauging the veteran personnel man’s interest in trading with the division rival. But, in the end wound up jumping the Giants — in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys to move up two spots — to chose the player who might have been sitting atop Gettleman’s board, Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith.

Smith, the Heisman Trophy Winner, projects to be a speedster in the mold of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Tyreek Hill, and an ideal addition to quarterback Jalen Hurts’ arsenal.

However, even adding one of the top perimeter players this Draft class isn’t what makes Roseman and the Eagles the biggest winner so far … It’s Roseman’s adept maneuvering up and down the board.

The Eagles previously acquired an additional first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft in a deal to move back from No. 6 overall to No. 12, with the Miami Dolphins, and didn’t even have to part with that selection as part of the deal with the Cowboys.

Roseman adding one of the best available players, preserving the team’s potential three first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft was a major victory for the Philadelphia Eagles and sets the franchise up rather nicely to either add a quarterback to replace Hurts next season or continue building around him, if he shines in an offense suddenly loaded with speed.
