3 best moves that Chiefs made in the NFL Draft
By Scott Rogust
Replacing Sammy Watkins with Cornell Powell
The Chiefs had a bit of a dilemma at the wide receiver position this offseason. The team was in the running for JuJu Smith-Schuster but lost out to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Additionally, the Baltimore Ravens signed Sammy Watkins away from the Chiefs.
Despite all of that, the Chiefs redeemed themselves in the fifth round of the draft by selecting Clemson wideout Cornell Powell.
The former Tigers wide receiver can line up on the outside and serve as a deep threat target for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Even though he did not put up much on the stat sheet in his first four seasons at Clemson, he made up for it this past campaign. Through 12 games in 2020, Powell put up 53 receptions for 882 yards and seven touchdowns.
Giving Mahomes weapons in the passing game, especially late in the NFL Draft is certainly deserving of a spot on the best moves list. But it does not win out against the number one move of the annual event.
