The Philadelphia Eagles draft Fletcher Cox’s cousin in Memphis football star Kenneth Gainwell.

It is a family affair in the City of Brotherly Love, as the Philadelphia Eagles drafted the younger cousin of star defensive tackle Fletcher Cox in Memphis football standout Kenneth Gainwell.

Like Cox, Gainwell grew up in Yazoo City, Miss. As with his older cousin, he played his college ball for one of the bigger programs in the region. Gainwell might be slight in stature, but he made up for it in production at Memphis. Despite growing up in the Mississippi Delta, Gainwell was an Eagles fan growing up, as he idolized former undersized Philadelphia tailback Darren Sproles.

Together, maybe these Mississippi cousins will help the Eagles get back to flying high in 2021?

Even with these cousins reuniting in Philadelphia, the Eagles have a long way to go to get back to relevancy in the deep NFC. Three seasons after winning Super Bowl 52 over the New England Patriots, the Eagles were a tire fire a year ago. Quarterback Carson Wentz’s play deteriorated and head coach Doug Pederson eventually got the ax. All the while, The Birds devolved into bird mess.

With first-year head coach Nick Sirianni and his rock, paper, scissors competitive ways, there is a chance the Eagles could be the worst team in the NFC next season. However, Philadelphia seems to have drafted well this spring, as the Eagles have landed 2020 Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith, 2020 Rimington Award winner Landon Dickerson and now Cox’s younger cousin Gainwell.

For the Eagles to get it turned around, every team member has to be pulling in the same direction.
