Brewers robbed by Mariners after trading for player they just DFA’d

The Milwaukee Brewers designated catcher Jacob Nottingham for assignment on Wednesday, and the Mariners claimed him. Now he’s headed back to Milwaukee.

The Mariners just robbed the Brewers for real money. Someone call Seattle PD, I’d like to report this.

Milwaukee has suffered a number of injuries at backstop, including most recently to Omar Narvaez, who was placed on the injured list this Friday. Out of options and realizing they made an enormous mistake due to depth reasons, Milwaukee asked for their player back, but were forced to pay for him.

He’s back in the lineup, like, right now! The Brewers don’t mess around, and certainly aren’t giving Nottingham time to re-acclimate.

The Milwaukee Brewers can’t catch a break with injury

The Brewers could feature a starting nine of their own on the injured list, most notably Christian Yelich, who is on the 10-day IL himself. Despite all of this, Milwaukee holds a 17-10 record, good for best in the National League and a two-game lead in the NL Central over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Give Craig Counsell and the Brewers pitching staff some credit for holding it down in the meantime.

While adding a catching presence like Nottingham won’t make a massive difference, he does bring a familiar presence. Given all it cost them was some of Mark Attanasio’s money to correct a mistake, this isn’t a bad move for Milwaukee.

Seattle, in the meantime, is merely counting their bills.
