An absolutely terrible call in the game between the Phillies and Mets led to star slugger Bryce Harper getting ejected from the showdown.

While the return of baseball has been great over the past month, the inconsistency from the umpires in games simply has not. It feels like each week a terrible, just awful call during a game is making way too many headlines. This was once again the case on Saturday night.

In a contest between the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets, veteran outfielder Andrew McCutchen was called out trying to run from second, with the ump saying he ran too far outside of the base paths. In the video below, you’ll see it was just a horrific decision.

One of the worst calls you’ll see was made in the Phillies-Mets showdown

How in the world was McCutchen called out here? Phillies skipper Joe Girardi was furious with the call and rightfully so. McCutchen couldn’t believe it. This was just such a silly, terrible call by the ump.

To make matters worse for the Phillies, Bryce Harper was ejected from the game after arguing from the dugout. We’re not lip readers, but it’s safe to say that Harper was letting the expletives fly against the umpires.

Again, nonsensical calls have been a common theme for the umps early on in 2021. They’ve got to clean it up. The Mets went on to win this game 5-4. Had McCutchen ended up being safe at second, who knows what might have happened. However, with him being out, it completely changed things for the Phillies.

MLB owes McCutchen, Girardi, Harper and the Phillies as a whole an apology for Saturday’s blunder. These errors absolutely must come to an end and fast.
