2. A true superstar is in Chicago

Bryant is the best player on this Cubs team. He is better than both Baez and Rizzo and is playing like an MVP so far in 2021. Teams are desperate to land someone like this and the Cubs should prioritize him over anyone else.

Keeping Bryant and losing Baez and Rizzo is better than any alternative combination. The Cubs can still save some money while keeping a perennial MVP candidate in the lineup.

2021 is only Bryant’s seventh season at the MLB level and he is already at a 27.0 career WAR. The Cubs won a World Series in 2016 when he was named NL MVP and there are no signs of decline based on his current start.

The Cubs front office obviously knows Bryant is a star. Money is the issue here and what to do with Baez and Rizzo comes into play as well. The team may not want to hand Bryant a major extension during the season, only to basically say Baez and Rizzo are both gone.

However, there should be no rush to trade a superstar like Bryant and essentially give up on the remainder of the season in the middle of summer.
