Alex Wood. player. 40. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. SP. San Francisco Giants. . 2

Since coming off the IL in mid-April, Wood is 3-0 with a 1.50 ERA in three starts for the Giants (18 innings) entering Monday. In his last two outings, he has 16 strikeouts, three walks and five hits allowed over 13 innings (at least six innings in both).

The Giants took a one-year, $3 million flier on Wood last offseason. He has struggled with injuries the last two seasons since a good run with the Braves and then the Dodgers from 2013-2018, and he started this year sidelined after back surgery. So there are durability concerns, and he is no longer a young pitcher at 30 years old. But Wood has plenty of postseason experience (3.55 ERA over 20 appearances), and being a lefty may help his trade value.

With a nod to that playoff experience, Murray pointed to Wood as an under-the-radar option for contending teams looking to round out their starting rotation. If the Giants move into sell-mode, he’ll quickly be lined up as a prime candidate to go elsewhere. Assuming, of course, he stays healthy and continues to pitch well.
