2022 NFL Mock Draft: Lions replace Jared Goff with Spencer Rattler
By Brad Weiss
The Buffalo Bills are a team I really like to make a serious run next season, and they have already picked up the fifth-year option for quarterback Josh Allen. This is a guy who has gotten better every season for the Bills, and I believe will eventually lead them to a Super Bowl.
Picking at No. 29 overall, the Bills add a talented linebacker in Nik Bonitto, who is going to be a three-down player at the next level. He is good in coverage, is a punishing tackler, and would be another solid young addition to this Bills defense.
After adding a franchise quarterback in Spencer Rattler with pick No. 1 overall, the Detroit Lions dip back in the well here at No. 30, the pick they got from the Los Angeles Rams in the Matthew Stafford trade. With this pick, the Lions get Rattler a weapon, bringing in Alabama star Jon Metchie III.
With Rattler and Metchie in the fold, this Lions offense can start moving in the right direction, as Metchie is going to be one of the better wideouts in this draft class. Maybe I am wrong, and Jared Goff has a terrific season in Detroit, but I will roll my dice on Rattler going No. 1, and Metchie becoming his WR1.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are reloaded for another run at a Super Bowl, after literally signing all of their stars to come back for the repeat. Of course, if they are picking at No. 31, that means they lost in the Super Bowl, so maybe Patrick Mahomes will get some revenge on Tom Brady.
However, with this pick, the Buccaneers continue to bring some solid youth to their defensive line, adding Haskell Garrett from Ohio State. He is an immovable force in the middle of the Buckeyes defensive line and is going to be a fantastic pro.
The Kansas City Chiefs shocked the football landscape when they got rid of their starting offensive tackles after the 2020 NFL season. However, they had a solid plan in place, as they traded for Orlando Brown, and bolstered the interior through free agency and draft picks.
In 2022, they should look to bring in another young offensive tackle with pick No. 32, adding Darian Kinnard from Kentucky. Kinnard and Brown would form a dominant tandem for years to come protecting Patrick Mahomes.
