Patrick Mahomes got a firsthand taste of what it would be like if he had played on a team with a weak offensive line unit during in Super Bowl 55. The Chiefs did make the tough choices of releasing Mitchell Schwartz and Eric Fisher, but they found many ways to improve the unit.

The team signed Joe Thuney, Kyle Long and Austin Blythe this offseason and acquired Orlando Brown Jr. in a trade. If you thought the Chiefs were done adding after that, Veach would like to have a word. Kansas City selected Oklahoma center Creed Humphrey in the second-round and Tennessee guard Trey Smith in the sixth-round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

With the team having so much depth on the offensive line that brings a smile to Mahomes’ face, someone will have to go. If one person’s value took a hit, it was Andrew Wylie.

The veteran offensive lineman has been with the Chiefs organization since 2017 and even started in the Super Bowl this year due to the injuries to Fisher and Schwartz. But with the additions Thuney and Long, as well as the return of Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Wylie has plummeted down the depth chart. If the Chiefs were to move on from Wylie, they would free up over $2.1 million in cap space and would not be docked any dead money, per Sportrac.
