1. Not trading Zach Ertz

It was a bit of a shock when the draft came and went without Zach Ertz being dealt somewhere. If the Eagles end up releasing the unhappy tight end in June, that’ll go down as a big mistake from draft weekend.

Howie Roseman has a point when he says he doesn’t want to give Ertz away for less than he’s worth, but trading him would be infinitely better than cutting him to save some cap space when the time comes.

A trade could have involved draft picks and/or players, which could have further impacted the picks Philadelphia made during the draft.

Obviously, the Eagles may still hope they can convince Ertz to bury the hatchet and return to help the team in 2021. He is a three-time Pro Bowler who has been an asset to the offense. It would certainly make Jalen Hurts life easier to have him around. It just seems quite unlikely at this point given the cap implications and the tight end’s own feelings on the matter.

Philadelphia can salvage the situation with a trade before a release becomes viable, but other teams will know that too. The bargaining chips aren’t as strong in Roseman’s favor as he seems to think they are.
