2. It’s time to recall Deivi Garcia

The Yankees aren’t ever going to go to a six-man rotation because it would limit Gerrit Cole’s ability to impact the team’s regular season. It’s still a good idea to give Corey Kluber and Jameson Taillon extra rest whenever possible.

That’s why Garcia should already be headed back to the Bronx. He’s already made one spot start on the year, but he deserves more responsibility. The lessons he can learn taking the ball once in a week at the major league level far outweigh anything he’ll learn in Scranton this year.

At the very least, Garcia should get an honest opportunity to seize a spot in the rotation. The Yankees have everything to gain and very little to lose by committing three or four starts to their talented youngster. If it works they’ll know Garcia can be a mainstay of their rotation for years to come. If he flops, they can send him back to AAA to refine his craft before a hopeful September call.

There’s also the possibility that Garcia can hold up as the “extra starter” long enough for someone like Luis Severino or Clarke Schmidt to get healthy enough to assume the role during the dog days of Summer. No matter what, it makes sense to bring Garcia back into the major league mix immediately. His talent is too prodigious to leave in the minors.
