1. He’s just been the best rookie

When it comes to all-around stats, Ball reigns over the rest of the 2020 rookie class.

Anthony Edwards has him beat in scoring at 18.9 points per game, but Ball has managed 16.0 points while also outpacing all other rookies with 6.2 assists per game. He’s a point guard and still ranks second among all first-year players with 5.8 rebounds per game.

Ball has been a facilitator and a reliable shooter, hitting 44.7 percent of his looks from the field and 36 percent from beyond the arc. He contributes to every facet of the game.

It’s not just that Ball has been a great rookie. He’s a legitimate point guard, period. He’s averaging almost as many points as Chris Paul, as many assists as Kyrie Irving, as many rebounds as Stephen Curry and as many steals as Ben Simmons.

What he’s managed at his age is pretty incredible. It’s rare to see a 19-year-old who comes in so polished. But that’s why the Hornets grabbed him in the draft. They were betting on him living up to the hype and he’s done it completely.

You won’t find a rookie who had a bigger impact or better overall stats for this season. He has the stats and he passes the eye test. LaMelo Ball is the Rookie of the Year.
