4. San Antonio, TX

With a football stadium that’s ready to go, San Antonio has lingered as a potential (however unrealistic when it came down to it) relocation spot for an NFL team for awhile. Whenever a lower level football league surfaces, Arena League, the XFL, etc., the city almost always has a team in it.

On the baseball side, the San Antonio Missions became the Double-A affiliate for the San Diego Padres again this year. With very few gaps, San Antonio has had a major league-affiliated minor league team almost continuously since 1933. The Alamo City would be a seamless geographic fit, and help MLB avoid realignment if the A’s move.

3. Sacramento, CA

Sacramento is of course home to the NBA’s Kings. It’s also currently home to the Sacramento River Cats, the San Francisco Giants’ Triple-A affiliate. But prior to that, from 2000-2014, the River Cats were the A’s’ Triple-A affiliate.

In a broad sense California’s capital city would surely welcome the A’s to town, as long as there’s a viable stadium site to consider and develop. Of course any proposed commitment of public money would have to make it through government votes, red tape, etc. But if the A’s leave Oakland yet stay in California, Sacramento stands as the No. 1 city they’d move to.
