New Orleans Saints 2021 NFL schedule: 5 must-win games
2. vs. Green Bay Packers
This past season was an odd one for coordinator Dennis Allen’s unit. When it was all said and done, only three teams in the league allowed fewer total yards and rushing yards than the New Orleans Saints. And the reigning NFC South champions finished fifth in the league when it came to the stopping the pass.
But early on in 2020, teams were having their way with Allen’s secondary. After a Week 1 home win over the Bucs, the club went to Las Vegas on a Monday night and had few answers for the Raiders. Six days later it was another prime time affair and the Saints’ defense looked helpless against the Green Bay Packers.
In that Week 3 tilt, quarterback Aaron Rodgers hit on 21-of-32 throws for 283 yards and three scores without an interception. In fact, Matt LaFleur’s club played turnover-free football in a 37-20 Sunday night triumph at the Superdome.
Now the Saints will host the Pack for the second consecutive year. In ’20, it was a showdown between Rodgers and prolific passer Drew Brees. The latter has since retired but will the three-time NFL MVP be back with the reigning NFC North champions? It’s been the subject of discussion for the last two weeks.
