Game of the Week: Giants at Football Team

Last year, the NFC East was one of (if not) the worst divisions in NFL history. Nobody ever threatened finishing above the .500 mark, with Washington finally, and mercifully, winning the crown at 7-9.

This season, both the Football Team and New York Giants have real reason to believe they can take over. Washington had an excellent offseason in which it added cornerback William Jackson III and receiver Curtis Samuel, along with quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to serve as a bridge to the future. With one of the NFL’s best defenses in the nation’s capital, the question is whether Fitzpatrick can keep his turnovers down while making a few big plays.

For New York, third-year quarterback Daniel Jones is under the spotlight. The Giants added a host of weapons this offseason highlighted by receivers Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney, along with the return of star running back Saquon Barkley. If Jones can’t deliver with this group, general manager Dave Gettleman might use one of his two 2022 first-round choices on Jones’ replacement.

It’s only Week 2, but the winner has an early leg up in what should be a very tight divisional race throughout the campaign.
