Game of the Week: Packers at 49ers

Perhaps we get Aaron Rodgers going against the team he wishes he played for.

The 49ers were beset by injuries last season, and still managed to win six games in the NFL’s toughest division. Now, San Francisco will have one of the football’s deepest rosters back at full strength with Jimmy Garoppolo assumedly at the helm while first-round pick Trey Lance learns Kyle Shanahan’s offense.

While Green Bay represents one of the strongest challenges on San Francisco’s schedule, this is also an opportunity to reestablish as one of the NFC’s elite teams. The 49ers start the season out East with a pair of road games against the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles. It’s likely San Francisco will be favored in both. Winning on the road and then beating the Packers would be a huge step towards a playoff berth.

Meanwhile, no team has gone through more turbulence in recent months than Green Bay. The first two weeks are quite winnable, and taking down San Francisco on the West Coast for the second straight year would be a nice achievement for Rodgers and Co.
