2. Time to worry about Tristan Jarry?

The biggest question for the Penguins heading into the Stanley Cup Playoffs was without question their goaltending. Pittsburgh had a strong core of forwards and a fairly underrated and effective blueline. They didn’t have their best game on Sunday, but ultimately, the Isles scored four goals that starting goalie Tristan Jarry probably should have had.

He absolutely should have had the first two goals. The first goal from Palmieri and Pageau’s goal were both quite stoppable.

According to MoneyPuck, Palmieri’s first goal had a 1.7% chance of scoring. Jarry had a clean look at the shot yet couldn’t get his glove up fast enough even though he got the shot off from 38 feet away. Pageau’s goal had a 2.2% chance of going in from 40 feet away. Nelson’s goal involved a screen, but it wasn’t an overly difficult shot. Certainly a shot you’d like to see your goalie save in a big moment.

Even Palmieri’s overtime goal was a bit soft for Jarry to allow. Credit the Islanders for peppering Jarry with shots once they realized he was a bit shaky. That’s what the best teams do. But one has to wonder how much confidence the Penguins have (or should have) in Jarry.
