The Oklahoma Sooners are looking to make it all the way to Oklahoma City for the Women’s College World Series.
Oklahoma is, by far, one of the best teams in the country this year and has all the tools to win a national title. The Sooners are looking to head up the road from Norman to Oklahoma City for the 2021 Women’s College World Series and they have all the tools they need to win it all this season.
Of course, first thing’s first, the Sooners need to get through the Norman Regional.
Season overview
Oklahoma roared through the regular season, winning with ease and routinely thrashing foes. The Sooners had no issues run ruling their opponents and hit an astonishing 130 home runs throughout the season. The team boasts a .419 batting average and has a 2.24 ERA. Unsurprisingly, OU has a 45-2 record, went 16-0 at home, and won the Big 12 softball championship.
Best wins
The Sooners have run-ruled many teams this season. Some of the most impressive wins Oklahoma has have come against rival Texas. That series ended in a sweep with all three wins ending in five innings.
- April 16 vs. Texas – 11-1 in five innings
- April 17 vs. Texas – 10-2 in five innings
- April 18 vs. Texas – 9-0 in five innings
Worst losses
Oklahoma has only lost twice this season. Their losses aren’t that bad, either. Both of those losses came on the road and by a combined total of three runs. That’s it. The Sooners fell short against Georgia and Oklahoma State, losing to the Bulldogs by one run and the Cowgirls by two. Oklahoma responded and beat the Bulldogs in the second game of their doubleheader and then took the other two from the Cowgirls to close out the regular season.
- April 20 at Georgia – 6-7
- May 7 at Oklahoma State – 4-6
Players to watch
- Jocelyn Alo – Alo has a .479 batting average, has hit 27 home runs, and has 75 RBIs this season.
- Tiare Jennings – Jennings boasts a .474 batting average, 24 home runs, and 76 RBIs so far this year.
- Kinzie Hansen – Hansen enters the NCAA Softball Tournament with a .444 batting average, 20 home runs, and 51 RBIs.
Final thoughts
The Sooners are just about unbeatable, as close to unbeatable as any college softball team can get. Wichita State, Texas A&M, and Morgan State will all have a rigorous challenge in front of them in the Sooners.
